Meeting notetaker Granola has launched a cross-app dictation feature, currently available on Mac. This move signals the convergence of consumer voice AI apps into multi-feature platforms, directly challenging Wispr, which recently added meeting notes.

Full Report

Apps in the consumer voice AI world seem to be converging, as Granola, known for its meeting notetaker, launched a dictation feature today. This comes months after Wispr, known for its dictation tool, launched a meeting notetaker.

Granola’s dictation currently works on Mac just like any other such tool. Users can press the “Fn” key, start speaking, and the tool cleans up and formats their speech and posts the final text. This feature works across all apps, so users can post notes, dictate prompts, and reply to emails and messages.

The company said that the feature will land on iOS and Windows soon.

Granola and Wispr are valued at $1.5 billion and $2 billion, respectively. Granola is focused on meeting-related automation and note-taking. On the other hand, Wispr is trying to build its own models through a research lab, which is exploring different human-computer interfaces.

The feature mashups are not exclusive to Granola and Wispr. Other voice startups such as Fireflies, Speechify, and Monologue have converged into multi-feature apps with meeting note-taking and dictation capabilities. Until earlier in the year, the play was around having a focused app that does one thing well. But now, all of these apps are thinking about how to get more out of capturing users’ speech.
